WTX Midessa July Regional SSBU Doubles Tournament

As of May 1st Steve has been banned from WTX SSBU Play.

All competitors are required to bring their own joy cons or pro controllers.

Tournament Etiquette Guidelines

Everything here are guidelines to how things are generally run at events. They aren't hardline rules that will get you in trouble for breaking, unless otherwise specified, but just things to keep in mind.

1. Before the Event

• First and foremost. Please wash yourself! Smashers smelling bad is a stereotype that holds up a little too well. It's not just a you problem maintaining bad hygiene, please just make sure you don't exude an aura of bad odor. No one around you wants to embarrass you but they also don't want to deal with that stench, especially in such close quarters.
• Please try to Preregister, at the very least 30 mins before an event. This is the most guideline of guidelines. No one's going to be mad at you for not following this but it really does help make things run and seed smoother.
• If you're running late or can't make it after you prereg'd let a TO know. It's pretty easy, just communicate so we don't DQ you or so you don't hold the event up forever.
• When the TO calls for you to stop your friendlies please stop right away. Typically, TOs have a few announcements to make before an event or at the very least making a roll call to ensure that they've accounted for everyone who is signed up. Aside from the fact we'll be using the setup you're on for tournaments, you might miss important information pertinent to you.

2. During the Event

It's not just a you problem maintaining bad hygiene, please just make sure you don't exude an aura of bad odor. No one around you wants to embarrass you but they also don't want to deal with that stench, especially in such close quarters.
• If you have to go somewhere at least let a TO know so they can try to keep things running while not wasting time trying to figure out what happened to you. If you're in the bathroom or have to take a call that's cool but tell someone and don't take all day to take care of things. But if you left to go get some food or something you are very liable to get DQ'd for it. Don't get DQ'd because you had to use the bathroom and didn't say anything to someone, with no heads up most TOs will assume you just left.
• Don't start your set without a TO calling for it. TOs will not be happy with you constantly pestering them to be allowed to play.
• Before you start playing friendlies on a setup make sure to wait for TO to announce that it's open for friendlies. Many events will provide friendlies only setups, and as the event proceeds more and more setups will open up for friendlies and Money Matches.
• Trash talk, cheering, and general excitement is fine, but understand boundaries. Don't touch people who are in the middle of a tournament set, don't try to distract them by trying to hold a conversation with them, and give everyone playing in a tournament set some room. If you need to know if someone is playing a tournament set or what the set count is ask a spectator or if you have to ask the players, ask between games. Also do not coach players during a set. Doing this will actually get you in trouble, after given a warning you can and will be DQ'd and removed from the venue for this. To demonstrate the difference between coaching and cheering here are some examples:

Coaching: "He's Gonna Roll!"

Cheering: "Great Punish!"

Coaching: "Stop Using Up B So Much!"

Cheering: "You Got This!"

Coaching: "He's Got a Bad Spotdodge Habit!"

Cheering: "He's Washed!!!"

Obviously, the line can get blurry here, but basically just avoid giving advice to competing players.

3. After the Event

• No one but TOs are obligated to break down and put stuff away, but you do have an obligation to keep your own trash cleaned up and respecting the venue as a whole.
• After the events wrap up typically there will be setups for friendlies. It's an unspoken rule that most friendly setups will run a 3 player rotation. Of course this is entirely up to the people playing on said friendly setup, but rule of thumb you'll probably have better luck finding friendlies at a setup with only 2 players.
• While players playing Money Matches aren't given the same preference as players in tournaments, a lot of the same basic etiquette given to tournament sets still generally applies to Money Matches.

4. Additional Tips

• Throughout the event there will be excitement cheering and plenty of loud noises. But believe it or not this can go too far, there has been a precedent set for this known as the "MikeHaze Rule" which refers to any intentional effort to disrupt another players focus by loudly or suddenly screaming. This doesn't just extend to in tournament play but also to the venue as a whole. Its difficult to break this rule, but if you're so excessively and persistently loud that we are getting regular noise complaints or you're literally hurting other venue goers eardrums you'll be asked to cool it.
• Bring your own controllers and necessary connectors. It's not rude to ask to borrow someone else's of course, but it's just better for you to account for that.
• Most players who are fresh off a loss are probably not in a great mood. While this isn't something we'll be enforcing to any capacity, it's generally a good idea not to approach someone who seems upset especially if you don't know them well.
• If you have a concern about seeding feel free to bring up your concern to a TO. There's no guarantee that we'll change something for you, often times we can't, but if you've played the exact same person round 1 for the last couple of weeks in a row we'll probably try to work with you. If we say "No" then that's the end of it, but it doesn't hurt to ask for small adjustments if we haven't started the event yet.
• Also TO NEW PLAYERS events are run with a double elimination format. Losing one set does not knock you out of bracket. Please remember this, there are too many times a new player got DQ'd from losers side cause they thought their run was done.
