SIGN-UP INFORMATION

The event is open for up to 32 players to complete on a first come, first serve basis. Players will be required to provide their Twitch username, Discord username and must join the event Discord Channel. After signups are closed, the Bracket will be created and players will need to schedule their matches with their opponents. This will be available on February 10-11, 2022. Any player who has been found to be part of any inappropriate activities, hate, discrimination etc will be removed from the event.

WHAT ARE THE GAMES?

Well that's part of the challenge, but you might want to brush up on your retro games including platformers and some other categories from the Mario, Mega Man, and Sonic series from the '80s, '90s and 2000's. Also, there might be some unexpected games as well from the series as well. For Retro Battle 2, there will also be a few surprise games as well that will be outside of the 3 franchises above. Some games will be played multiple times, but the category with a specific game will occur once. There will be a total of 70 unique game and category combinations available throughout the event! Once a combination have been used, it will no longer be seen in the tournament.

GAME PLAY

Players will be playing live on their respective twitch streams and rebroadcast on the event channel. Players won't know which game and the goal will be until game time. All games will be tested for play using BIZHAWK emulator since local availability of all systems in not expected. Each player will be provided any applicable files, passwords, saves or savestates to ensure proper start at each of the games. If players desire to play by other means, it will be their responsibility to have the means to play the games with minimal downtime in between each game. Each player will alternate choosing 1 of numerous options via the game pickter board and then the game and goal will be revealed. Once a unique game and goal option has been chosen, it will no longer be available in any future phase of the tournament. The first player to complete the goal, or the person making the most progress in the allotted time will win that game. Whomever reaches the BEST OF goal for that match (ex. 2 games in a Best of 3), advance to the next phase of the tournament. Any match requiring all games to be played (for example 3 games in a Best of 3), the tiebreaker game will be picked randomly from all remaining options. Players MUST STREAM USING THE PROVIDED LAYOUTS. No exception will be made.

SCHEDULING / BROADCAST

For each head to head match, players will schedule a time with their opponent before the deadline and indicate to the tournament admin in Discord within the #Scheduling channel on their agreed scheduled time to be broadcast LIVE.

Matches may be scheduled for any day between the timeframes listed about. Matches will must be scheduled via the time slots listed on the booking website. Only available time slots will be shown so you will know exactly what to choose from. Please check the schedule in discord to ensure your time doesn't overlap anyone other match. Each match will be allotted a 90 minute window. For Best of 5 and higher, that time will increase to 2.5 hours. Finals and 3rd place match will have a set date and time with no time limit.

BRACKET SEEDING

Players will be randomly seeded at the closing of the entry period, after which game scheduling may commence. The tournament is currently set to have 16 players. With up to 32 players, random seeding will determine any byes.

ENTRY FEE

An entry fee of $5 will be required of all players who enter the tournament. ALL entry fees go straight to the prize pool. The host, BigJon will fund the prize pool with $500+, so the minimum amount to be played for will be $660 with a full tournament. This is a crowdfunded tournament so any contributions made to this tournament will increase that total pool and give more to the winners as well. Entry fees is non-refundable.

PRIZE POOL (WHAT YOU CAN WIN!)

100% of the prize pool will be paid to the top 3 finishers. The prize pool will be made up of all amounts contributed by the host ($500), all entrants ($5 each) and all crowdfunded amounts combined. Anyone is welcome to donate additional funds to the prize pool by using the CONTRIBUTE button show on this site. You are also able to contribute additional funds to the prize pool free of charge by completing some of the actions shown on the right side of the screen. Simple tasks can increase the prize pool for the players at no cost. Prizes will be paid out in the following way:

1st Place - 75% of the Prize Pool

2nd Place - 15% of the Prize Pool

3rd Place - 10% of the Price Pool

These funds will be credited directly to your Matcherino account at the conclusion of the tournament!
