Game: NES Tetris

Date : May 22nd, 2021, qualifying begins at 3pm EDT / 19:00 UTC, Matches begin at 4pm EDT / 20:00 UTC

Format

Single Elimination 12 Player Bracket

Sudden death round (bo1) between seeds 5-12, followed by bo3 matches until finals where it becomes bo5.

All Matches will start on level 18

Same piece sets are allowed if both players are able and willing to do so.

Qualifying

The qualifying phase will begin an hour prior to the tournament start time. This phase will last 45 minutes. Any games submitted within this time frame are eligible to be submitted at the WPL Discord. The last 15 minutes will be used to finish last games and complete the bracket. 

Before you begin your qualifying attempt(s), link your twitch in #qualifying-streams in the WPL Discord. 

Must be done on twitch. 

At some point in your qualifying, please put the given keyword in the in-game leaderboard so that we know that the VOD is undeniably recent. A keyword will be given shortly before the tournament in the WPL Discord. 

Please have the current time visible on your stream!

Qualifying games can only start on levels 0 through 19. 

Please qualify on a Vanilla NES cart. Tetris Gym is allowed during play.

Please be stencil ready for your qualifier. Qualifiers may be restreamed before the tournament begins.

Player Streaming

Communication/Forfeits

-You must be in the WPL Discord to communicate with tournament organizers. If you are not online and able to communicate within 5 minutes of your match's start time, you will forfeit the match. Let a tournament staff member know if you need to postpone your match and we can likely get in another match up beforehand. 

-Please be set to ONLINE on discord so that communication lines are open for tournament staff. 

Disconnections

-Disconnects could potentially result in a match forfeit at the discretion of tournament organizers. Buffering happens and will be accounted for. If the stream goes down, continue playing until it comes back. Be respectful of each other and try to have a fair resolution regardless.  

Game Crashes

If a NES console or TV freezes, loses power, or otherwise becomes unplayable, The opposing player is welcome to pause and the game will be reviewed. Considering the scores, line counts, and piece stacks of each player at the time of the malfunction, along with any other circumstances deemed relevant, tournament officials will decide to either have players replay the game or, in cases where a player is deemed to have an insurmountable lead, award a win to the player who had the higher score at the time the malfunction occurred. 

Please be sure your setup is working properly!

Pauses

-You are not allowed to pause during a match. Extremely short pauses that may be misfires or accidental will be disregarded. Pausing for a long period of time will result in a forfeit of the current match point. 

Keep it Cool Dudes

-No racist, xenophobic, or sexist language. Poor behavior may result in a ban from the event.

-Be a good sport. However, friendly smack talk is encouraged.
